ADR Pump 1
Pump 1 was originally a tanker, built in 1963 at then, the Riegel Paper Company. Pump 1 was the first fire truck for the volunteer department. Chassis was purchased by the late George Everett of Delco, a retired Navy WWII frogman. Body was built inside the paper mill by the maintenance workers, with the assistance of the owner of the mill, John Riegel. This truck saw many fires and actions, from beyond Carvers Creek, Clarkton, East Arcadia in neighboring Bladen County, to Leland, Nortwhess, Supply and Winnebow in Brunswick County, to all over Columbus County. The tank went bad about 6 years ago, and due to the centimental value of the truck, we took our trailer drawn water point unit and placed it on the back with the assistance from C.W. Williams. After recieving it back, some more alterations wer done to make the truck a more maneuverable unit for water point operations. This truck has seen action as a water point truck and due to its manuverability and weight, it can go many places a conventional or custom engine can't and still keep up and go beyond GPM'S needed on water point operations.
Truck is a 1963 Ford F-600, 262 c.i. engine, 5 speed trans with 2 speed rear differential. It hauls 400 gallons of water in the poly tank, has a Darley 250 pto driven pump, carries 2 SCBA'S and bottles. The rear unit is an old Navy fuel transfer pump with a Gorman rump pump, single impellar. Unit will flow in excell of 1500 gallons a minute, with dual 6" intakes, (4) 2.5" discharges and (1) LDH discharge. Self priming, Pump 1 will draft in less than 1 minute and we have built in many options to keep pump from cavitating during filling operations. Powered by a 3 cylinder Detroit engine. Carries dead lay 3" hose and (4) 6" hard tubes, with floatable strainers.
